The Story Behind The Layers

My Process

My work often begins long before a composition takes shape. I spend time creating hand-printed papers, collecting found materials, experimenting with image transfers, and building a personal library of textures and marks. The process is often intuitive, allowing each layer to respond to the one before it until the story gradually reveals itself.

Many of these papers are created through printmaking processes using Gelli plates, hand-carved linocuts, old textiles, ink, and found objects that leave unexpected impressions. I enjoy discovering how ordinary materials can create extraordinary marks, often building and reworking layers until each print has a history of its own.

I also gather papers wherever I go: vintage books, maps, dictionaries, magazines, and forgotten bits found in markets, second-hand shops, around home or while travelling. The materials that mean the most, however, are those tied to my own story: family photographs, handwritten notes, recipes passed down through generations, and other fragments of personal history that quietly become part of the work.

Like a palimpsest, each piece carries echoes of earlier marks and memories, where nothing is ever completely erased and every layer contributes to the final story. 

Inspiration

Inspiration comes from many places: walks in nature, family stories, old books, and the beauty found in everyday objects. I'm also continually inspired by learning from other artists. Workshops, exhibitions, and creative communities challenge me to experiment with new techniques and perspectives while helping me develop a visual language that is uniquely my own.
